At first it was only a few pounds, but I thought it’s normal that weight fluctuates occasionally. I pay attention to the scale, and I adjusted my lifestyle and diet. Eventually, I went to the doctor. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism, which is common in women above 50. I followed the doctor’s instruction, and she told me to come back 6 weeks later. 6 weeks for me was daunting, my weight spiked like never before, my mood changes frequently, I forgot a lot of important dates, and I always had to interrupt in the middle of the conversation because I wasn’t able to focus at all.
I went back for a checkup, a few times. But here’s what she said:
“This is what would normally happen to women around your age. It’s unavoidable, it’s aging, and somehow you need to accept it.”
